Here are some answers to questions you may have about this service:
- How can I use the wireless access?
While in our buildings, customers may now connect their wireless devices and receive high-speed Internet access completely free of charge. Many devices will be able to automatically detect the wireless network.
- My device can't detect the wireless network automatically; what settings do I need to use?
The following basic settings should allow you to connect to the wireless network:
- Network Name/SSID: CLEVNET
- Network Mode: Infrastructure
- WEP: Disabled
- IP/Network Settings: Automatically obtain a network address (DHCP)
- DNS: Your device will automatically obtain the DNS address along with a network address
- Gateway: Your device will automatically obtain the gateway address along with a network address
- Where do I need to go in the library to use the wireless access?
Wireless access is currently available anywhere inside the library.
- What if I don't know how to configure or troubleshoot my wireless device?
Library staff are not trained to help with these problems. All customers who want to use this service are expected to know how to configure their own equipment. If your computer does not seem to be connecting correctly, we recommend you contact the manufacturer. Some manufacturers have online help via their webpages, which you could access from one of our public Internet workstations. Staff will not be able to assist you with changing settings and the library is not responsible for any changes you make to your settings. In addition, the library cannot guarantee that your equipment will work with this service.
- Will my information be safe while I'm connected?
No. when using any wireless connection, you should assume that your data is not protected. Be aware of this while transferring or entering sensitive information.
- Can I print while using the wireless network?
Sorry, printing is not available through this connection. Customers may, however, save their files to a floppy disk or USB flash drive and print using our public Internet PCs.
- Can I access the library catalog from the wireless network?
Yes, browse to our website and click on the Library Catalog link at the top of the page.
- What online services am I limited to while using the wireless network?
Our wireless access allows web browsing (HTTP), FTP access and access to our online catalog.
- Are there any other restrictions in using this service?
All users of our wireless network must comply with our Internet Access Policy.
