Does the Library have outdoor book returns?

Yes! Huron Public Library has a drive-thru book return located in the main parking lot. There are also book return slots on the side of the building, to the left of the Center Street entrance. Materials may be returned here 24/7 unless otherwise noted. Items returned after the Library has closed will be backdated the next day.

Patrons may return books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines in these returns, but there are some Library items that cannot be returned in these drop boxes. These items need to be returned to the Circulation Desk during Library hours (i.e. Hotspots, Literacy Backpacks, Launchpads, Community Journals, etc.)

What are the fines and overdue charges for Library materials?

Fines and overdue charges for materials borrowed from other libraries vary depending on their loan policy. Huron Public Library is now fine free for most materials, including books, AV materials, ukuleles, puzzles, and magazines. Exclusions apply for fines for mobile hotspots, Literacy Launchpads, Literacy Backpacks, and projectors. Lost and damaged items will still incur a fee. If an item is lost or damaged, the fine equals the cost of the specific material. For questions about fines for a specific item, please call the Library at (419) 433-5009.

Can I renew materials from home?

Most library items in the CLEVNET system automatically renew up to five times unless a hold is placed on the item. If a hold is placed on an item, the patron will be notified via their preferred method of notification and then the item must be returned by the last due date given or the patron could be fined a late fee. Some Huron Public Library items may not be renewable and DVDs only automatically renew once.

Materials cannot be renewed if:

  • the item is placed on hold by another patron
  • the item has reached its renewal limit
  • the account has been blocked due to excess fines or fees

Please note that this service does not apply to digital materials.
