Message About COVID-19

Update as of 6/3/2020:

  • Outdoor drop boxes are open.
  • Staff members are also placing FREE donations outside for people to take. Please do not add donations to these boxes, as our donations are usually handled by volunteers that are not currently able to come to the Library. These FREE boxes are also pulled inside during the hours of Curbside Pickup (1 - 5 pm, Mondays through Fridays) to ensure that our service is contactless and safe for patrons and staff.
  • All materials checked out to patrons during the closure have had due dates extended until 7/22/2020. Due dates for certain items that cannot fit in the drop boxes (Hotspots, Literacy Backpacks, Literacy Launchpads, etc.) may be extended beyond this date. If you have questions, please speak with a librarian.

Update as of 5/20/2020: The Library will be offering Curbside Pickup starting on Monday, June 1. We will also be opening our outdoor drop boxes. In anticipation of possibly reopening to the public, the Library has also canceled all public meetings and programs until the Fall. The Library will still be closed to the public until further notice.

CLICK HERE for more information about Curbside Pickup.

Update as of 4/29/2020: The Library is currently closed due to the Governor's order. We will let the public know as soon as Governor DeWine and his staff notify libraries in the State of Ohio that they may safely open.

Update as of 4/16/2020: The Library has canceled all programs and group meetings for the months of May and June in anticipation of possibly reopening to the public in May. Any updates will continue to be posted here.

Update as of 4/3/2020: On Thursday, April 2, Governor DeWine extended the Ohio stay-at-home order in an attempt to reduce exposure to the coronavirus COVID-19 and to limit passage of the virus to Ohio citizens. In response to this, the Huron Public Library will remain closed until Governor DeWine and his staff have determined that the danger of the extended effects of the coronavirus have ceased. At this point, the Library will remain closed until Friday, May 1. We will continue to update the public as more information becomes available. The Library will reopen as soon as it has been determined that it is safe in Ohio to do so. The Board of Trustees and the Huron Public Library staff appreciate your cooperation as we wait for the effects of the virus to occur.

  • All outdoor book drops will be closed beginning Friday, April 3.
  • Patrons should keep the Library items that they currently have checked out until the Library reopens.
  • Due dates for all Library items will be extended and nothing will be due during the temporary closure.
  • Patrons can still access their accounts through the "CLEVNET Catalog" link at the top of this page.
  • Library apps like Libby, OverDrive, and Hoopla will still be available for digital content.

We will continue to post updates here and on Library social media for the public as changes are made to this information. Patrons can also submit questions or concerns to the website form on the bottom of this page or by emailing huron@huronlibrary.org.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Precautions at the Library

Like many of you, the Library's administrative team is closely following the unfolding news about the coronavirus in order to make decisions that will keep our community healthy. With guidance from federal, state, and local government leaders, our Board of Trustees has decided to take the following actions:

  • All programs and meetings that typically include 10 or more people will be canceled starting Thursday, March 12 through Wednesday, April 8. All Youth Services programs will be canceled Thursday, March 12 through Wednesday, April 8. Our Board of Trustees will re-evaluate the situation at our Board meeting on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 pm.
  • The Library will close if the Huron City School District closes. If the School District closes before the election on Tuesday, March 17, the Library will remain open for voting only.
  • Loose toys have been removed from the play area for cleaning. They will remain in the Story Hour Room until Wednesday, April 8.

We're working with local health officials and following directions from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Right now, we are taking additional steps beyond regular practices, and cleaning and sanitizing all Library spaces as much as possible.

Everyone has a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and in staying healthy. Please stay home and do not visit the Library if you are exhibiting signs of the flu or if you are not feeling well. We invite you to explore everything we have to offer on our website. You can download eBooks and audiobooks on Libby and Overdrive, and stream movies, music, and checkout eBooks and audiobooks on Hoopla. If you have questions, please call the Library at (419) 433-5009.

To stay healthy, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other health agencies recommend:

  • Washing your hands frequently. Wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Wearing a mask in public when you are able to in order to avoid spreading the virus to others. COVID-19 spreads asymptomatically, so you may have no apparant symptoms while carrying the virus. A mask helps to slow this spread.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoiding contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying home and away from others if you are sick.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting objects and surfaces frequently.
  • Covering your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
