Summer has finally arrived, and with it comes the return of our snowbirds and visitors. Many will be looking for something to do, and Huron Public Library is the perfect place. The current Library calendar is a good starting point for finding a special opportunity. In addition to checking out a Library book, DVD, or CD, you can purchase a used treasure from the FRIENDS Book Nook on the first floor. Downstairs, the gallery provides a place to browse artist exhibits, and the Historical Society has recently opened its doors for several hours a week for those curious to learn about our local history. Use a public computer or bring your own laptop to take advantage of the Wi-Fi for research or to stay connected to others.
Meanwhile, don’t forget that the FRIENDS are always looking for great volunteers and we welcome your participation in our work, even if you aren’t here year-round. If you’d like to help with the Book Nook or work on a team at the FRIENDS Book Sale, just leave word at the Circulation Desk and one of our friendly board members will contact you as soon as they receive your note.
Our FRIENDS group exists to support our fine Library, which is one of the centers of Huron community life. Look for our distinctive Book Bike at local community events. It is another reminder of our mission. Typically, the FRIENDS financially back the Summer Reading Programs, help to purchase circulating items like the literacy backpacks (filled with fun, educational activities), and underwrite monthly music programs.
We wish to also take this opportunity to thank our former president, Barbara Wilson, for all of her hard work and dedication. Under her watch, the current Book Nook became a reality and serves the public during all operating hours of the Library. We also want to thank all FRIENDS board members for their work and dedication. The volunteer board is truly the heart of the organization.
Have a great, relaxing, and enjoyable summer, but please take every opportunity to continue learning and reading too!
Friends of the Huron Public Library Board Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 3 pm.
