Summer Learning Program 2025: Color Our World
We are proud and excited to present another year of Summer Learning at Huron Public Library. Pick up an info packet with all the important details, as well as reading logs and activity entries at the Library beginning Monday, May 26.
Below, find details of how preschoolers through adults can participate in the Summer Learning reading challenge and programs for all ages.
Registration for the Summer Learning Reading Challenge and all SLP Programs goes live on Monday, June 9, at 10 a.m.

Bookmark Contest
Entries begin Monday, June 9, and are due by Saturday, July 5
Preschoolers through twelfth graders are encouraged to enter our annual SLP bookmark contest. As part of the 2025 Summer Learning Program, Color Our World, design a colorful bookmark to give to the public. Entry forms with all instructions are available at the Library and online. A winner from each age group will be selected.
Color Palette Creativity Challenge Card
Preschool, K-2, and Grades 3-6 each have a separate activity card.
All cards are due by Friday, July 25
All families are challenged this summer to complete a Color Palette Creativity Card. Work through the card, completing each task. When the card is complete, turn it into the Circulation Desk to be entered to win a prize.

SLP Kickoff Week
To kick off the 2025 Summer Learning Program, we’re celebrating for a whole week with registration and fun activities.
Registration for the Summer Learning Reading Challenge and all SLP Programs begins Monday, June 9, at 10 a.m.
Other Activities:
- Collect the Rainbow – Beginning Tuesday, June 10, donate food, pantry, and sanitary items that match the colors of the rainbow.
- Community Wall Mural – Beginning Wednesday, June 11, be a part of a community art project by contributing art to the HPL Color Our World Art Mural.
- Rainbow Chain Scavenger Hunt – Thursday, June 12 | Kindergarteners through second graders can go on a scavenger hunt through the Library to build a rainbow chain and win a prize.
- Upside Down Art Studio – Thursday, June 12 | Tweens & Teens can participate in a fun art activity hosted by Upside Down Art Studio
- Support the new Storybook Trail by attending the Grand Opening at the BGSU Firelands James H. McBride Arboretum on Friday, June 13, at 11 a.m.
Babies & Toddlers

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to sign their babies and toddlers up for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge, which is available year-round.
Family Storytime will be on Tuesdays, June 17 – July 15, at 6:30 p.m. Babies and Toddler Storytime will be on Wednesdays, June 18 – July 16, at 10 a.m. OR 11 a.m.
On Wednesday, June 11 and Wednesday, July 23, Stay and Play Time will be at the Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Preschool children (ages 3 1/2 – 5) are invited to participate in songs, stories, & fun learning activities this summer. Children and their grown-ups keep a Reading Record of the books read from Monday, June 9, through Friday, July 25. For each book read, fill out a prize ticket and drop it in the BIG can by the Youth Services Desk.
Preschool programs are on Wednesdays, July 18 to July 23, at 1:30 p.m. OR 3:30 p.m.
Preschool SLP Passive Contest: Find Mini Miss Melissa: Art Adventures – Seek & find Mini Miss Melissa as she adventures through the Library. Once a week, Mini Miss Melissa will be hiding somewhere new in the library. Find her each week and then head to the Circulation desk for a prize.

Read one book or read for one hour (at reading level) and log it on the official Reading Record. Bring the Reading Record to the Library to receive a sticker and a prize ticket for each book/hour, for a chance to win weekly prizes. Read and record 10 books/10 hours to get an invitation to the invite-only Art Alley Finale Party at the Huron Boat Basin.

Stop by each week to take a guess at some popular storybook characters and learn about the illustrator who created them.

Each week, go on a search through the Library for a famous painting that’s hidden. Then write down some important info and turn it in to win.

Please note that the Children’s SLP program is organized by grade completed.
Teens (completed Grades 7-12) are encouraged to participate in the Summer Learning Program fun – simply
by reading. For each book read (at reading level), earn five tickets. Read anything else (magazines, newspapers, graphic novels, etc.) and earn a single ticket. Keep track on the Reading Record, and check in at the Circulation Desk to WIN BIG PRIZES.
Teen Programs are on Thursdays, June 12 & 26 and July 10-24 at 4 p.m. or as a drop-in time.
Teen Adventure Weekly Challenge: Guess the Artist
Begins Monday, June 10. Drop by the teen ‘jelly bean’ desk each week to pick up a different art challenge or puzzle. Complete the task, turn it in, and be entered into a weekly prize giveaway.
Tiny Art Show
Pickup the week of June 9, drop off by Friday, June 20.
Take & Make a miniature art canvas and paint palette to create a masterpiece at home. Drop your artwork off at the Library to be placed on display.

Register for the Adult Summer Learning Program starting on Monday, June 9. Log the number of books read on the Reading Log and/or attend SLP Programs to receive tickets that can be put toward the weekly drawings.
The Summer Learning Program ends on Friday, July 25.

Color Our World Finale Soiree
Monday, July 28 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Celebrate your Summer Learning successes at our Color Our World Finale Soiree. The soiree will include snacks and refreshments, free giveaways, games, a take-home craft, music, and more. This event is welcome to all who participate in the Adult Summer Learning Challenge and will take place in the AV area of the Library.
